From Peru to Utah, a Seamstress’ Story

Peru Glag.png

During the bustling summer wedding season, I'm deeply immersed in my craft for at least 10 hours a day, stationed at my five industrial sewing and serger machines in Syracuse, Utah. Downstairs, my home serves as both a dressing area and showroom. "Arriving in the United States from Peru, I was overwhelmed with emotions and nerves. Mastering English and establishing my own business were my top priorities."

Originally from Peru, I've always embraced challenges and sought personal growth. At just 9, I experienced the loss of my mother, finding solace in my grandmother's care. As a young adult, I pursued studies in sewing and clothing manufacturing in Lima, leading to a successful career as a seamstress in Peru.

Determined to seek more opportunities, I initiated the immigration process to the United States, despite the wrenching decision to leave my three kids behind. After years of separation, we reunited in Utah, where I found love and remarried.

Yearning to return to my passion for sewing, I juggled work in a bakery while improving my English skills at Weber State University. Bolstered by my newfound language proficiency, I launched M&G Alterations & Bridal, now crafting more than 100 dresses during prom and wedding seasons.

Today, as American citizens, my children and I have realized our American Dream.
